BUDGET SAFARIS

A budget safari in Tanzania is a popular and efficient way to experience the country's world-class wildlife destinations on a limited budget. These tours are designed to maximize game viewing while minimizing costs, primarily by using camping accommodations and shared transportation.

Accommodation: The core of a budget safari is camping. You will sleep in basic dome tents, often on public campsites within or just outside the national parks. Meals are typically prepared by a safari chef who travels with the group. Facilities at these campsites are shared and can be basic but functional.

Transportation: Travel is in a shared 4x4 safari vehicle, usually a custom-built Toyota Land Cruiser with a pop-up roof for optimal game viewing. The vehicle will accommodate a small group of travelers, and a professional driver-guide will lead the safari.

Cost: Prices for a 4-day budget safari can range from $200 to $400 per person per day, with the total cost for the trip often falling between $800 and $1,600 per person. This price typically includes park entry fees, all meals, camping equipment, the safari vehicle, and the services of the guide and cook. The main variables are the number of people in the group, the specific parks visited, and the time of year (prices are higher during the peak season from June to October).

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
Your safari adventure begins in Arusha, the gateway to the Northern Circuit. You'll be picked up from your hotel in the morning and drive to Tarangire National Park. This park is famous for its massive elephant herds and the iconic baobab trees that dot the landscape. You'll enjoy an afternoon game drive, exploring the park and spotting a wide variety of animals before heading to a nearby campsite for dinner and your first night under the stars.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park
After an early breakfast, you'll embark on a journey to the legendary Serengeti National Park. The drive is a safari in itself, as you transit through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with opportunities for game viewing along the way. You'll arrive at the Serengeti's central Seronera area, one of the richest wildlife habitats in the park. After a picnic lunch, you will have an afternoon game drive, searching for the Big Five and experiencing the vast "endless plains." Dinner and overnight will be at a public campsite in the Serengeti.

Day 3: Full Day in the Serengeti
This is a full day dedicated to exploring the Serengeti. You will head out for early morning and late afternoon game drives, which are the best times to see predators in action. Depending on the season, you may get to witness the Great Wildebeest Migration. Your guide will drive to different parts of the park, ensuring you see a wide range of animals and birds. In the evening, you will return to your campsite for another night in the wild.

Day 4: Ngorongoro Crater Tour & Return to Arusha
After an early breakfast, you will leave the Serengeti and drive to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You'll descend into the magnificent Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage site and the world's largest intact volcanic caldera. The crater floor is a natural enclosure for an incredible density of wildlife, including one of Africa's densest lion populations and the critically endangered black rhino. You'll spend the morning game driving inside the crater before a picnic lunch. In the afternoon, you will ascend the crater walls and begin the drive back to Arusha, where your safari adventure concludes.
